Chart For Indian Penal Code 1860

The Indian Penal Code (IPC) is a criminal code that defines various criminal offenses and their punishments in India. It was enacted in 1860 and has undergone several amendments since then.

General Exceptions (Sections 76-106): These sections provide for certain situations in which an act that would otherwise be considered an offense may not be punished. These include acts done in good faith, acts done in the exercise of a right of private defense, acts done under compulsion or necessity, and acts done by mistake or accident.

Offences against the State (Sections 121-130): These sections deal with offenses such as waging war against the state, sedition, and conspiracy to commit such offenses. These offenses are considered to be against the sovereignty and integrity of the nation and carry severe punishments.

Offences against Public Tranquility (Sections 141-160): These sections deal with offenses that disturb public peace and order, such as rioting, unlawful assembly, and promoting enmity between different groups.

Offences against Human Body (Sections 299-377): These sections deal with offenses that cause harm or injury to a person’s body, such as murder, assault, and rape. These offenses are considered to be the most serious and carry severe punishments.

Offences against Property (Sections 378-462): These sections deal with offenses related to property, such as theft, robbery, and extortion. The severity of punishment depends on the value of the property involved.

Offences relating to Marriage (Sections 493-498): These sections deal with offenses related to marriage, such as bigamy, adultery, and cruelty by a husband or his relatives towards his wife.

Offences against Morality (Sections 292-294A): These sections deal with offenses related to public morality, such as obscenity, indecent representation of women, and promoting or indulging in unnatural sexual acts.

Offences relating to Documents (Sections 463-489): These sections deal with offenses related to documents, such as forgery, counterfeiting, and using a false document.

Offences relating to Public Servants (Sections 161-171): These sections deal with offenses committed by or against public servants, such as taking a bribe, criminal misconduct, and abuse of official position.

Offences relating to Elections (Sections 171A-171I): These sections deal with offenses related to elections, such as bribery, undue influence, and illegal practices.

Criminal Conspiracy (Section 120A-120B): These sections deal with the offense of criminal conspiracy, which involves two or more people agreeing to commit an offense. The punishment for conspiracy is the same as for the offense that was conspired to commit.
